Homestead Survivor shared this recipe from Heidi of themilkmanswife.blogspot.com. Heidi first posted the recipe a few years ago. It’s a homemade recipe for cough syrup that was given to her by an Amish friend.
The recipe contains honey, blackberry brandy, peppermint schnapps and some other ingredients. Frankly my first thought was “The Amish drink?” Well after a little research it appears that it depends on the particular Amish community and their local customs. But some Amish do indeed allow and indulge in a little alcohol.
Heidi wrote that she and her husband would take 1 tablespoon and if they gave it to their kids they would only give them 1/4 teaspoon. I would test the recipe yourself and decide if it’s appropriate for your children. Click the Homemade Amish Cough Syrup Recipe below to read the full recipe.
