Brannan S at the Untrained Housewife is a really entertaining writer. As she points out, commercial hand sanitizers are basically stinky. So she went ahead and developed her own natural, homemade hand sanitizer.  There are 2 core ingredients and then 2 essential oils.  Brannan uses Thieves’ Oil which is a commercial blend.  I provide one link below where you can get this blend.  She also uses Oregano oil.  Both Thieves’ Oil and Oregano Oil are antibacterial, antibiotic and antiviral, which make them perfect for a hand sanitizer.  The recipe is very simple.

Thieves® Oil is a commercial product that was created based on research about four thieves who, during the 15th-century plague, used cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics to protect themselves while robbing plague victims. Thieves® is a proprietary blend of pure essential oils tested at Weber State University, Ogden, Utah, and found to be effective against airborne bacteria.

You can find Oregano Oil at Mountain Rose Herbs
