How to Make a Better Strawberry Pallet Planter

I’m developing a mild obsession with garden planters made out of wooden pallets 🙂  There are so many creative designs out there. This is a design for a strawberry pallet planter  by Tanya of Lovely Greens.  It has a clean, rustic look to it. It’s also raised and sturdy.

This is a step-by-step tutorial with photographs and instructions.

Tanya has some great information about how to choose the right kind of pallets for this project. Pallets that cross international borders must be heat treated or sprayed with pesticides to kill of pests.  But each pallet must be stamped twice with information which includes whether it has been sprayed. You definitely want an unsprayed pallet for this project. She includes  pictures of what to look for in the stamps.

Tanya then steps you through cutting down a pallet, trimming the wood and reassembling it into a planter with wooden feet.

She also explains that you need barrier materials to keep soil and compost in the planter.  She used scraps of wire in the bottom, and then a layer of gardening fabric that keeps the dirt in but lets water out. Finally she used straw as an organic erosion barrier.  She also explains how to plant the strawberry plants.

Great tutorial and a wonderful looking planter.
