Switchel is a beverage that’s often made with apple cider vinegar and other ingredients. It’s sweet, spicy and healthy.
This beverage has been around for centuries. Some say it originated in the Carribean. I’ve also seen it identified as a colonial American farm drink. In addition to apple cider vinegar, it uses water, a flavoring like raw ginger root and a natural sweetener. I don’t think this is a fermented drink like kombucha. But it’s a wonderful and refreshing, non-carbonated drink.
This article explains the history of switchel and its benefits. It also includes a recipe and variations you can make.
