Thank you for visiting Herbs and Oils Hub!!
Mason Jar Sun Luminaries are really popular for patio or garden lighting at night. They are also called Sun Jars. I have researched this topic quite a bit. They now have solar lids that you can get for mason jars, but they are $10 for one lid! A complete mason jar luminary selling in stores costs $30 to $40!
So then I found this tutorial by Jillee of One Good Thing. This is really a cheaper, and simpler approach. Click the DIY Solar-Powered Mason Jar Luminaries (Sun Jars) link below for her easy tutorial on making Solar-Powered Mason Jars (Sun Jars).
Also, I found some neat things you can do to make your Sun Jars even better:
- Turn the jars over. Spray the outside of each jar with glass frosting spray. Don’t spray the lid! Some recipes call for spraying the inside of the jar, but this results in uneven coverage and is hard! The glass frosting spray will diffuse the light.
- Some stores sell glass frosting spray in different colors like pink and blue. Another option is to use white frosting spray. Then line the inside of each jar with colored tissue paper.
- Also, if you plan well and your solar light assembly is the same size as the lid, you can use a glue gun to attach the solar assembly to the lid. Make sure you don’t get glue on the solar panel.
