There is a growing trend among people who are trying to live naturally to reduce the amount of paper towels that they use. Paper towels are wasteful and end up in landfills.
Heather of Mommypotamus has a tutorial on how to make “unpaper” towels that can be used in place of paper towels. These are 12″ x 12″ cloth towels that are made of terry cloth/flannel on one side and cotton on the other side.
If you have a nice design or darker colored piece of terry cloth or flannel, you place that cloth face down on a separate piece of cotton cloth. Heather explains how to stitch 3 sides, pull the cloth through to reverse it so that the design is on the outside, and then stitch it closed.
Now you can easily stitch up a bunch of these cloths and you’re good to go. You can use them for daily wipe-ups in the kitchen and then launder them. Heather has many more details in her post that will help.
Heather takes it a step further. She explains how to add snaps to connect the handmade towels together and then put them on a roll. So you can unroll a towel for the large roll and disconnect the snaps. I wouldn’t really want to do this but some people might.
