Extending the season involves using strategies to protect Fall plants as much as possible from frost or harsh storms. Some vegetables do have to be harvested before the first frost. Examples of these vegetables would be cucumbers, beans, tomatoes and peppers.
But there are semi-hardy vegetables that tolerate colder weather and will grow and can be harvested after several frosts. Some examples: beets, cabbage, lettuce, broccoli and more.
