This is a wonderful article about Hibiscus. It was written by Annie Hall of the Herbal Academy of New England.
Hibiscus belongs to the Mallow family which is native to the subtropics and tropics around the world. They come in a variety of colors. Ruby-red hibiscus, which is popular, can be used to make a beverage with a cooling, tangy-sweet flavor. You can use Hibiscus in both hot and cold drinks. You can also make a Hibiscus herbal infusion using either cold or hot water.
Annie shares some of the health benefits of Hibiscus. Among other things it has more antioxidants than green tea. It also helps to lower blood pressure in those people who have high blood pressure. There are several more health benefits discussed.
You can make Hibiscus ice cubes by making an infusion and then pouring the infused water into ice cube trays for freezing. Add a few Hibiscus ice cubes to your daily water and you’ll be helping your health in so many good ways.
Annie also shares a terrific recipe for a Hibiscus-Clover Cooler. This is a perfect summer drink: Hibiscus ice cubes, cloves, lime and water. You can add your favorite sweetener.
