I can just hear you saying “Beet Kvass? What the heck is beef kvass?” I could say that I knew what beet kvass was. That my family routinely gathered around the dining room table to chug beet kvass and share the details of our day. That we gave jugs of beet kvass as gifts to our friends. That we raised our children from birth on beet kvass. But I would be lying 🙂 I just learned about beet kvass today which is one thing love about life. You never know when you’ll learn something new.
Beet Kvass tonic is a blood tonic and liver cleanser. It’s inexpensive and fast to make. It only needs 2 to 3 days of fermentation. And it contains probiotics!
Olivia of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Healthiness describes the taste as sort of salty, garlicy rich juice. It does look like wine.
She shares a very clear and simple recipe for beet kvass. One of the ingredients is whey. Don’t panic! She links to another post where she explains an easy way to make whey (heh 🙂 ) Did you know that when you allow plain yogurt to separate, the liquid portion is whey and the remaining solids are a form of natural cream cheese? I actually did know that and still find it magical.
