Because of the various chemicals added to commercial detergents, people concerned with healthy living are always looking for safe, homemade laundry detergents. There are a lot of recipes out there. Some of them use borax which is a controversial ingredient.
There is a 1993 EPA document that warns that acute exposure to borax can cause eye irritation, skin irritation, respiratory problems, stomach problems and more. The key words are “acute exposure.” But the good news is that if you have concerns about borax you can leave it out completely and still have a good detergent!
Sarah shares her recipe which uses just 3 main ingredients plus water. You can add essential oils for scent if you’d like.
