Thank you for visiting Herbs and Oils Hub!!
The following recipe is an excerpt from the Ebook, 100+ DIY Projects to Make with Fruit Scraps by JES. It is from the chapter “The Medicine Cabinet”, which features a selection of home remedies and food supplements for your health such as medicinal and protective oil blends, salves, tonics, booster powders, immune support products, etc.
This delicious honey will not only provide immune support during the autumn and winter season, it can be especially helpful for easing sore throats, combating the cold and flu, fevers and for breaking up congestion. High in vitamin C, an anti-histamine and an anti-inflammatory, the orange peel (which has double the amount of nutrients than the actual flesh of the orange) is the star of the show (and an ingredient most people throw away!). This powerful combination is similar to the famous “Four Thieves” blend making it quite the medicinal electuary!
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. dried, powdered orange peel
- 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. ground allspice
- 1 c. raw honey
Process
Mix dry ingredients together and grind until powdery (this helps to powder the peel even further for a smoother blend). Stir spices well into the honey. Let flavors infuse for 24 hours prior to using. Do not strain. The spices are meant to be consumed with the honey. Store inside a clean, airtight jar.
Note: You can adjust the ingredients according to your preferences and/or double or triple the recipe as desired.
Suggested Use: Spread on toast, stir into oatmeal, add to hot water, herbal tea, coffee or eat by the spoonful for immune support. This spice blend is especially helpful for sore throats, combating the cold and flu, fevers and for breaking up congestion.
Shelf life: For best results, use within 1 year. Store in a cool, dark area such as the pantry.

All the do-it-yourself projects revolve frugally around the foundation of fruit scraps that you would generally throw away! All the products are made from scratch by tapping into the beneficial properties of the powerful fruit peels! As you have always heard (and now know) that there are more vitamins in the peel than the actual fruit, you will be gleaning the gold in these recipes! The other neat part is that all of the shelf-stable projects come with matching labels. This makes it an ideal book for gift giving ideas as well! At least 100 of the recipes are shared with a full color photograph of each product.
