This is another of those posts that will sound strange. But in my continuing quest to bring you current, interesting articles, I offer you this:
What is oil pulling? Good question! It is swishing oil (coconut, safflower, sunflower or vegetable) in your mouth, kind of like mouthwash. The oil dissolves and washes away plaque and toxins. It also whitens teeth and improves gums. Coconut oil is a good choice because it tastes good, is antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal.
Jillee of One Good Thing describes the process in detail. One goal is to swish the oil and pull it through your teeth for 15 to 20 minutes. Personally, I can’t see myself swishing anything for that long, not even my morning coffee. But I guess you can work up to the 20 minutes. You DO NOT swallow the oil. Jillee explains the proper way of disposing of the oil.
Jillee also has much more information about oil pulling, including some essential oils you can add to the oil.
