Thank you for visiting Herbs and Oils Hub!!
Last week I shared City Boy Hens’ recipe for Drunken Cherries. Then I found an excellent article by Jerica that has a recipe for more drunken fruit! Life is good 🙂
This is a method of preserving smaller amounts of fruit in alcohol like brandy or vodka. 80 proof alcohol is ideal. You can use almost any fruit: cherries, berries, strawberries, apples, and all stone fruit (peaches, plums, elderberries etc.). You can also add a vanilla bean or other spices.
Jerica’s recipe and process are both easy to follow. For best flavor, you should keep the fruit in the alcohol for at least 4 to 6 weeks. The longer you preserve the fruit, the deeper the flavor. The neat thing is you end up with alcohol-infused fruit, as well as a fruit liquor.
Another great thing is that Jerica includes a list of 11 different ways to use alcohol preserved fruit. For example, puree the fruit and gently fold in whipped cream to taste. Chill before serving. Yum! Or spoon some of the preserved fruit over ice cream! Double yum!
