NoahW wanted to build some simple, affordable & attractive planters for some of his fruit trees. He used 55 gallon food safe plastic barrels and scrap wood and built a planter in one afternoon.

He provides step-by-step directions in the Instructables post. He did use some basic power tools to build the planter. The scrap wood that you use for the exterior trim is going to determine the look of the planter. So that gives you a lot of flexibility.
